Coin albums?

My daughter has shown some interest in collecting Roosevelt dimes so I was thinking about buying an album for her. She's pretty good about taking care of things that belong to her, so I thought about getting her one of the nicer Dansco albums. Are these albums safe for coins as far as long term storage goes? Will the coins degrade in time if stored this way? I remember reading about a problem with toning but I don't no if this type of album was used or not. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Kathy,

Put on your flame suit and hold on... The greater majority of the people here are against collecting coins, unless its in the form of Bullion bought At, Near or Under Spot and will prolly start in telling you about it vs answering your question....

Danscos have been around for ever and seem pretty popular with the collecters. Also, if you go to some of the Bigger books stores (Barns and Noble or Borders) they have some in the Books (collecting) section that are a Silver and Blue color and say US Mint on them that are pretty nice... I have a few of those... On those they have a clear slide out thing on both sides of the page, you slide it out, put the coin in the hole and slide it back in.. Both sides of the coin are protected yet visable... Alot of the coin books I find, you can only see one side of the coin..

Here is a link to a place that has the US mint ones,,,

Why not do both?
Collect and learn about coins and
buy silver

Buy some junk silver and then you'll be able to go through the bags and have fun!

Thanks smullen!

I don't think anyone here wants to argue with a 7 year old girl about silver. :D She wanted to collect pennies at first because she liked the color better, but I talked her out of that by showing her how many it would take to buy even a candy bar. I don't think she'll give up on it, but if she does at least this way I have more silver. And as she gets older maybe I can brain wash her into thinking like me. lol

Thanks everyone!

Kathy

Why not get a dansco album for Silver Eagles?
And collect coins and have you pm's too!

I first started collecting the Silver Eagles to eventually give to my grandchildren (if and when I ever have them)

No one should give Kathy flack about coin collecting. She did post the question in the numismatics section. I'm a bullion man mainly, but I do collect mercury dimes. It's gives me a reason to go to the coin shop when I'm low on cash for bullion. :D Besides. you won't see me buying a 1916D or anything like that. Maybe a photo would suffice for my album.

Enjoy collecting with your daughter Kathy.

I don't see anything wrong with either. But like I stated in another post, I looked into coin collecting but thought saving silver was a better investment and offered the most protection for our future. But I can see where collecting would be fun and a good investment for someone that knew what they were doing. And I'm all for anything that will get my daughter out from in front of the tv, so if she wants to collect (silver) dimes, I'm happy.

odinthedog, I can't get that link to open but I'll try it again later, sometimes it's my Direcway service playing games. Thanks!
